Could it be said that he who knows history, writes history? I believe our understanding of even the 18th century is quite different than those who lived 100 years ago. History doesn’t change, but our perception can change dramatically from generation to generation.

I’m caught up!! And I can’t answer the question of the day. I’ll have to ask my dad. :-) Revolutionary War era American history is not my cup of tea. I’m looking forward to what others have to say. :-) Liam, I’m staying curious.

In light of that, I have to go read a book on reading comprehension for class tomorrow. Yes, I’m reading a book about reading. :-)

The facts or events of history do not change, and the majority perception perhaps changes, but the hermeneutics of history demands evidence. That evidence may be insufficient to draw a complete conclusion, or it may serve propaganda when the evidence marshaled forth is selective, but real historians are always attempting to arrange all the evidence in such a way that a probable, reasonably objective conclusion may be reached. If new evidence comes to light then the conclusion must be reworked–a fun proposition for future historians. There are some who give interpretations of history that serve their selfish ends, but the practitioners of history will eventually expose them.
